Dr. Amee Yajnik is a practicing lawyer since 1984. Besides B.Sc. and LL.B degrees from Gujarat University, MEE degree from IIEE Delhi, she holds Master of the Science of Law (JSM) and Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) degrees from Stanford University, USA.

She has served as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor in the High Court of Gujarat, as Standing Counsel for the Central Government and as Senior Standing Counsel for the Central Board of Excise and Customs. She has been serving a variety of clients including State Corporations, State Boards, Insurance Companies, the Corporate Sector and several Social and Charitable Organizations.
Since 1987, a significant part of her legal practice has been gender justice related work which includes pro bono legal aid for women and legal awareness campaigns for women and their legal rights at grass roots level. She is a resource person for several organizations working for women and is a significant participant in women related seminars and conferences. She has been a member of the National Commission for Women appointed Inquiry Committees for Patan Gang Rape Case, Deaths of minor girls in BT cottonseed fields in Gujarat and Female Foeticide in Gujarat Since 2010, she has been writing a weekly column on “Women Adhikar” in Divya Bhasker and “Law for Ladies” in Gujarati Daily Sandesh. She is member of Global Action Committee for Elimination of Family Violence. She is also member of Complaints Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, Gujarat High Court and has been member of Women Cell, Prasar Bharti, Ahmedabad
Her frequent Talk Shows on Radio and Television focusing on women’s rights include a very wide range of subjects such as “Equality of Women and Women’s Rights”, “Women and Divorce Issues”, “Women and Property Rights”, “NRI Marriages and Problems Women Face”, “Sexual Harassment Issues at Workplace” “Law on Domestic Violence”, “Issues related to Surrogate Motherhood”, “Female Foeticide and Women’s Human Rights”.
She is one of the founder members and immediate Past President of All India Federation of Women Lawyers, a national organization that works with women lawyers for the betterment of women and children. She is also associated with several Women’s Organization and Gender Resource Center, Ahmedabad, Member, Global Action Committee for Elimination of Family Violence, Past Member, “Mahila Samakhya”, State Program Committee for Women.
She is guest faculty at various educational institutions including Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Nirma Institute of Management, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy for Administration, Mussoorie, Sardar Patel Institute for Public Administration (SPIPA), Ahmedabad and the National Judicial Academy at Bhopal. She has been invited speaker at national and international seminars and conferences and has presented her papers at the Central European University, Budapest, University of Berkeley, USA, World Conferences on Family Violence at Singapore and Nicosia and World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg. She was a special invitee to Kuala Lumpur to be a member of the International Taskforce on Women and Information and Communications Technology. An expert on Environment Law, she has been invited by the World Bank and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan and International Conference at Cyprus on environment management and law. She has authored a book and several papers for reputed journals and conferences. Have been Joint Editor, Gujarat Law Herald, Law Journal Published by the Bar Council of Gujarat Member and is member of Advisory Council of Gujarat Current Digest, Law Journal. She has won many awards, recent ones being the Bhaskar Woman of the Year 2010, Bhaskar Woman–Career and Excellence Award 2010, Leading Woman Lawyer of India 2011, Pratham Girnar Shiromani Pratibha Award 2012 and Ladli Media Award 2012. The National Commission for Women honoured her as an “Outstanding Woman” on the occasion of International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8th 2013. She was also awarded Leading Women in Humanitarian Award 2015 and 2017 by Women Leaders in India, Leadership and Innovation Award 2017 by International Women Leadership Forum.
